A national, multidisciplinary body of respected practitioners, educators, researchers, and leaders who provide strategic guidance and lend credibility to the development of Canadian wilderness self-reliance standards.
What the Advisory Council does
Strategic guidance
Advise on the long-term direction of NBWSR and emerging opportunities across the sector.
Standards review
Review draft standards and certification pathways for credibility and field relevance.
Certification development
Help shape practical, nationally relevant certification frameworks.
Partnership support
Facilitate introductions and collaboration with organizations across Canada.
How it works
Advisory, not governance
The Council guides; the Board governs. Members carry no governance obligations.
Volunteer service
Participation is voluntary, with no compensation implied or guaranteed.
Flexible commitment
Approximately 2–10 hours per quarter, scheduled around your availability.
One-year terms
Renewable by mutual agreement; members may resign at any time.
